About Max & Dona
In 2020, before the world paused for a pandemic, the idea of building a tech community sparked in a conversation with two friends. It was a vision born from shared experiences and the belief that mentorship and opportunity can transform lives.
Maxwell Onjoro, a brilliant software engineer, showed up at Riverbank Solutions with nothing but a POS receipt and a determination to prove himself. After a trial unlike any other, Maxi’s talent shone. He grew into a Senior Engineer, crafting software solutions for KCB Bank, County Revenue Collection, and the Government of Kenya. Today, he’s helping Turaco bring insurance to low-income earners—proof that unconventional beginnings can lead to extraordinary journeys.
Then there’s Donald Liyayi, a pharmacist who dared to dream bigger. Growing up together in Eastlands Nairobi, I never imagined he’d pivot to tech. But he did. After enrolling at Nairobi Technical University, Donald discovered a passion for back-end and front-end development. With persistence and a knack for learning, he became a QA Engineer at Riverbank Solutions, mastering the payment and financial industry.

My journey
It started with a pencil. I was a freehand artist, known for my sketches, and torn between becoming a chef or pursuing design. A chance at Nairobits Digital Design School changed everything. From animation and graphic design to front-end development, I settled into tech while helping a struggling colleague with HTML and CSS. One thing led to another, and I found myself blending creativity with technology, shaping user experiences in the Financial, Payment, Farming and EdTech sectors.
